The walls that kept intruders out of the city.
Beyond the ruins and green farms, the new city is visible.
The new city that was devestated last night.
Beyond the walls of the old city and desert to the north.

The old stable, for horses that travelled the Silk Road.
Looking north-east from the highest point in the citadel.
Bam used to be the oldest mud structure still standing.
Little houses, you can see how people lived.

Arge-e Bam, one of UN's heritage sites was destroyed in a devestating earthquake that killed thousands in Iran last night. These pictures were taken yeras ago to show the old city and its citadel built on the ancient Silk Road. The new city is also visible in the background.
